Your point about possible interference from a 2.4GHz phone is a valid
concern if you have that type of phone in use, but I don't think "is so
slow" is. I'd be more than a little surprised if your broadband
connection is actually faster than the 6-7Mb throughput possible on
802.11b. But what frequency do you think 802.11g works on? That same
cordless phone would do the same damage on "g". These faster standards
are mostly for file sharing between your computers on your LAN, not
necessarily sharing an internet connection.
I'm interested to see if someone has a suggestion that will allow you to
connect another client by wireless to your present router. I'm thinking
you'll need to do internet connection sharing or the like if you won't
replace the router with a wireless one.
