Firstly ditch the USB modem. This is the cause of the dial ups, and also a
host of future problems as well, unless they have got more stable. Unless
your on Win XP then theres no firewall between you and the net apart from
the built in windows one.
Nothing to keep viral infection or worms out, and with ADSL it'll happen
sooner or later.
Get yourself a cheap Broadband router, which will come with a built in
firewall. About £30 from most online stores (dabs, simply etc). Once this is
set with your username / password you won't need to 'dialup' again. It is
then permanently connected to the adsl until a reboot may be required.
Switch on the pc and it's just there. As they say it is in the adverts!
