Hi All,

I have a quick question/advice about a change I've recently made to my
small business network (1 server & 4 Pc's) which is causing me a little
frustration!

Here's the old scenario >>>
I had 1 server with 2 network cards. 1 card was attached to an ADSL
modem for internet access, the other to a network hub so that all 4 of
my pc's could access shared resources on the server and connect to the
internet. All fairly straightforward.

New scenario >>>>
Have acquired a bit more office space and want to start using WiFi so
purchase an ADSL WiFi router and replace the old ADSL modem with this
and install 2 WiFi adapters in 2 of my Pc's. This all works fine.....

Except for the fact that the Pc's that are now WiFi enabled cannot
access the server using the IP address of the NIC that is attached to
the hub. Presumbaly this is because the WiFi pc's now bypass the hub
and go straight to the router.

My question is, is this an acceptable way of doing things as it seems
like the WiFi router is outside my LAN and unable to allow traffic
through from my LAN to acces the resources on the server. So should I
reinstate my old ADSL modem and replace the hub that I still have with
the WiFi router or can I combine the 2 functions into one using the
WiFi router?

Any help/advice would, as ever!, be much appreciated.

Regards,

Jason

There are probably other solutions with what you now have, but a simple one
would have been to just buy a WAP and plug that into your hub. There was no
need to buy a router.

You could use this new router as a WAP by doing the same thing (not using the
WAN port) but it's a waste.
