NEWBIE: Adding WiFi to existing LAN w/ cable modem...?

I'm pretty new at this stuff and this is my first time posting here. I have
what I hope is a simple question. I have a small home-based business with a
couple of machines tied to a hub. I have a cable modem hooked up to a
SonicWall firewall and that connects up to my modem. I'd like to start
using a PocketPC with WiFi but would like to also take advantage of the nice
connection speed I have here at home. To make this work do I need to get a
wireless hub and patch it into my existing hub? If not, then what is the
proper connection sequence? Thanks in advance...

I tried to do this with a Sonicwall and a D-Link 614+ Rev b and failed. I
wanted to keep using the Sonicwall, and just use the D-Link as a wireless
hub. D-Link said that was not possible, but a couple of posters here (with
other than Sonicwall perhaps) say they managed it. One would think that
just not plugging anything into the WAN side of the wireless router should
work.

I finished up not using the Sonicwall. This works fine, but the Sonicwall
seemed to have somewhat better firewall and logging capabilities, junior
though they might be compared to a "real" firewall.

Sounds like my setup is about what you want to do as I started with a cable
modem connected to a UMax (MaxGate 3200) gateway/switch/firewall and simply
added a D-Link 900AP+ wireless access point to one of the ports of the
switch. Works fine... Probably not as much detail in the description as
you'd like but it simply worked by following the D-Link instructions.

Peter,

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll borrow my buddies D-Link hub and see how it
goes. You're right about the SonicWall. I've had it since I got the modem
and it's been a lifesaver...

George,

Thanks! I'll see what happens with a borrowed D-Link first. It seems like
this should be simple but often I run into more trouble with the easy ones
<g>...

Just hookup an Access Point to the hub and you're set!

I have a dlinkl 614+ as a access point only.
It gets ip addresses thru the ap from a linux firewall/dhcp server sitting
on my lan.
you must not plug anything into the wan port (as you said) but you also must
disable the internal dhcp server, mine works great!
