Hello,

I am not an expert and would like a little advice on
setting up a new workgroup. We have 5 XP clients that all
log onto their systems differently. We just purchased a
new Dell server running Win2003 Standard Server and would
like to setup a new workgroup so they can share files on
the new server. I've added them all to
workgroup "Myworkgroup", however the clients can see each
other and share on the workgroup, but not the server. The
server can't see anyone else on the workgroup either. Any
suggestions? I've disabled the ICF service and we are on
a TCP/IP network. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Pauline

Check that the server has Netbios over TCP/IP enabled. (TCP/IP
Properties | Advanced | WINS tab ).

Hi Bill,
Thanks, that setting was set to "Default" which was to use
DHCP server. I selected NetBIOD Over TCP/IP per your
advice. The problem was the subnet address on the
server. Thanks so much on this-- I had read about it in
the KB so it probably would have been the solution had
everything else been correct.

This is great help- I am glad I've started utilizing these
groups!!
