Hi,

I have a fresh Win2003 Server (came with sp1) DC. After running Windows
Updates, I installed DHCP. The client workstations pick up all the DHCP
settings from the server except DNS. It is the darndest thing. If I manually
assign the server as the DNS on the workstations (leaving all else with
DHCP), then I successfully joined the domain and the server is accessible.
If I set the DNS settings to get pulled from DNS, they disappear and the
workstation is left without DNS.

Any ideas on the DHCP not sending the DNS settings?

Seth

Did you configure the Scope or Server Options correctly on the DHCP server?
Option 006 is what you need to set up.

Yeah, that is handled in the "create a new scope" wizard when you first
install the DHCP Server service.

As I said, the workstations pull all the other DHCP settings down when they
get their address just fine.

If you go into the properties of the connection --> Networking (tab) -->
properties of TCP/IP --> Advanced (button) --> DNS (tab), are there any DNS
servers listed there?

Also make sure that you have the conenction configured to "Obtain a DNS
server automatically". If you select "Use the following DNS server
addresses" and leave the address field blank, it still will not accept a DNS
option from the DHCP server.
