Mixed mode network, I have NT 4 BDC, I want to keep the machine name but want
to replace it with new hardware and WIN2003 OS. Can I just remove the NT4
server logically and physically from the domain than add the 2003 server with
the same name, logically and physically to the domain?

This would depend of few things:
* what would be a role of this Windows 2003 server? Would it be a domain
controller?
* what version of operating system is your PDC? NT?

If your PDC is NT 4.0 and you want your new Windows 2003 server to be a
domain controller then you will have to upgrade your domain where you have
to upgrade your PDC first.

Here is an article that describes whole process
Upgrading Windows NT 4.0 Domains to Windows Server 2003 Active Directory

Feel free to post back if you have additional questions about this...
