New to Networking - HELP!!

Hi all -

Hoping that someone can help....

I'm running Win ME on 2 desktops and 1 laptop. One desktop is 'hard-wired'
to Linksys router. Other desktop and the laptop are using wireless
PCI/PCMIA. I've set up Home Networking on all three with very limited
success. So far, the main (hard-wired) desktop and the laptop see each
other just fine and can access each others' files. But the other wireless
desktop, even though it "sees" the other computers when I browse "Entire
Network" under Network Neighborhood, cannot contact or be contacted by them.
I keep getting the error message that that computer/name doesn't exist.

On the other hand, even though the main desktop and the laptop show all
shared files between the two upon startup, when I browse "Entire Network", I
get an error message that they are unable to browse the network.....HUH???

I've tried everything I can think of - checked to be sure settings are all
the same on all, etc., and my head is about to explode - NOTHING WORKS
(except my legs running from room to room!).

How can I get them ALL to recognize and network with each other?

Thanks VERY much in advance.

SuZ

I ran the Home Networking wizard under
Start-Programs-Accessories-Communications (with the result described) - is
that the right one? or is there another one?
Thanx,
SuZ

Check that all the PCs are under the same Workgroup. Also check that each PC
is running the same networking services (where is lists TCP/IP as a
service...) as each other (eg, File/Print Sharing, TCP/IP, *NetBEUI - if
running this*) . Also check each PC can "ping" one another (so that you know
they all have basic IP connectivity). You could also check that you have
NetBIOS (Hidden under the TCP/IP settings -> Advanced -> WINS) enabled on
all the PCs.

Also, (and probably first), make sure that any firewall software is disabled
on the PCs, if you installed any.

OK - here's what's probably a bonehead question....How do I ping the
computers? Also - *should* I be running NetBEUI?

BTW - Thanks to *everyone* for their input. I will have to pry my teenager
off the other desktop hopefully sometime soon to check the
settings/procedures you guys suggested so will post back when I figure out
what's going on.

I really appreciate everyone's help...

It's unlikely that you need to run NetBeui - most people run fine with just
TCP/IP
