Hi All,

I got a very weird problem with my new configured 2003 Domain Controller, i
cant restart it using "reboot" function. When i chose to restart server from
shutdown screen, it did close down the network connection, log off etc. Then
i could only get a gray screen with my mouse cursor on it, nothing happened
at all. I can restart it by physically press reset button or power button. I
didnt see any error msg on the event log yet...If i depromote it back to
normal memeber server, everything is working okay. Can your expert give me
some suggestions on how to fix it, tks heaps.

Kel

Hey Karen,

Try giving it 5 mins to reboot and check Event Viewer and see if it logs
down anything that hung during the reboot.

Also does it work if you shut down instead?

Are you running WinServer 2003 SP1? Are all of your device drivers updated
(including your BIOS)?

One other thing to consider- Are you using NIC teaming on this server? I've
had NIC teamed servers take forever to shut down and start up when one of
the NICs in the team is taking CRC errors for one reason or another. (i.e.
switch port gone haywire, etc)
