I have a similar (but different) problem.
Win XP on a new machine, Win 98 (not SE) on an old PC.
XP machine with a USB ADSL modem connecting to the WWW. I
want the 98 machine to use the same broadband connection
but it doesn't work!
I have set static IP addresses on both machines, connected
them via a Cat5 crossover cable. I have also ensured they
are both in the same named workgroup. I get traffic and
the XP box can see the 98 machine, the 98 box can't see
the XP one in explorer but mapping a drive to the XP box
works.
ICS, file and printer sharing is enabled on the XP box, no
firewall enabled.
I have experimented with Internet connection settings on
the 98 machine, putting the address of the XP box in as a
default gateway, putting it in as a proxy server setting,
auto detecting settings, etc, etc.
Nothing works, please help!
