Networking with XP causes problem to Win98

I have a laptop using WinXP and a desktop using Win98.
Both are capable of accessing the internet by dial-up
separately and have no problem in doing so.

Recently i had networked my computer (Win98) with my
laptop (WinXP) for a while to tranfer some files. However
a problem arises after this.

The situation now is that i can still get a connection to
the internet on my Win98 computer which shows there's a
slight internet activity in receiving and sending data but
it can't seem to open any sites or access any internet
activity anymore. Strangely it is as if i did not connect
to the internet at all.

On the other hand my dial-up connection in my WinXP laptop
works like normal.
Any help or ideas greatly appreciated.
