I have tried and tried to get one computer with 98 to talk
to a computer with XP. I have given the computers
individual names and named them both with the same
workgroup name. The computers can see themselves but
can't see each other. I have a wireless networking card
in my laptop and a cat 5 connected to the desktop. What
am I doing wrong?????

Thank you in advance.

1. is the internal XP firewall enabled ? (any other firewall software
running?) disable /uninstall

2. are you sure your cat5 is a "crossover" cable ?(that is whats needed for
a direct connect )

3. try sharing some resources on each computer ....

4. depending on which computer is the "master browser" , it may take up to
15 minutes for computers to be seen on a network
