Hey everyone

I’m new to networking and apparently not very good at it if I’m here looking
for help.

System

DELL Dimension 8400 (XP Pro)
DELL Inspiron 6400 (XP Pro)
Linksys Wireless G router

Anyways, here’s the problem(s) I am having.

I just got the laptop and Linksys router a couple of weeks ago. Installed
the router with no problems. Laptop picked it up right away and has good
connection. Ran the connection wizards on both computers. I had to select
folders to share ( I guess that’s right? ) Right from the start I couldn’t
get the Desktop to recognize the laptop in My Network Places, but the Laptop
recognized the Desktop fine, but still no access with this error:

\\*******\donnie is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resorce. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you
have access permissions. The network path was not found Thanks for any help
in advance.

Might want to mention Desktop is connected thru Ethernet (Wired).

Hi
Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings,
http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html
As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what is allowed
to be shared.

Thanks for the link http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html

Seems to have come in handy. I got the 2 coms finding each other in the
<View Workgroup Computers>. Seems it was the Windows Live Onecare i installed
that might have been the problem. I turned it off and deleted the network,
and started from scratch, and Voila. Hope this may help someone else !!

I wanted to share the C Drives on both coms. Is this safe or am I opening a
whole new can of worms ? Thanks
