Hi:

I have a host computer running Win 98 SE and 2 clients
running Win XP home edition. The host connects to the
Internet with a dial-up connection. All three computers
are connected via a NETGEAR dual-speed hub. I want to
install WinGate to allow the clients Internet access via
the host but first I have to establish network
connectivity. Networking the Win XP clients is straight
forward: there is an easy to use utility to set-up a home
network on Win XP. Both clients can see each other on
MSHOME. The Win 98 computer does not have this home
network set-up utility. Can someone explain how to set-up
the Win 98 computer so that the clients can see the host
on MSHOME and the host can see the clients?

Thanks.

Adam

The utility isn't necessary for any OS. Make sure the 98 PC is in the
MSHOME workgroup. Log on with an account that exists on the PC running the
proxy software.

You can run XP's network utility on Win 98 SE, too. I've written a
web page with details:

XP ICS - Starting the Network Setup Wizard
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/...rksetupwiz.htm

Why are you going to use WinGate? Both Win 98 SE and Win XP have a
built-in ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) capability. If possible, I
recommend using Win XP as the ICS host to share its dial-up connection
with the other computers. That's easier to set up and more reliable
than using Win 98 SE as the ICS host.

If you want to use Win 98 SE as the ICS host, see this page:

ICS Installation [Win98SE]

If you want to use Win XP as the ICS host, see this page:
