Please can someone send me a detailed dummies guide on how to network two
pc's in winxp. I have got both pc's showing in my network connections but
cannot share files ect. I type the correct file and when I do a search for
them I keep getting file not found. Or can someone point me in the right
direction.

Thanks in advance

Keith

You have to specifically share files/folders in XP. Open Explorer,
right click on the file/folder and click the Sharing and Security
option.

Hello Jeff thanks for your reply, this is what I have done so far. I have
named my pc with the file I want to share as ST1 with the workgroup as Home
I have also shared the file on ST1. On my other pc I have named this ST2
with the same workgroup name. I have also set the IP addresses ST1 is
192.168.1.1and ST2 is 192.168.1.2.

When I click on view workgroup computers I can see both ST1 and ST2 on both
computers. What I am having difficulty with and can't get my head round is
when I search for my file on ST2 I get an error message saying
(( ST1 is not accessible.you might not have permission to use this network
resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have
access permission the network path was not fount ))

Also when I right click my file and click share they is only three tabs
General, Sharing , Customize, shouldn't they be a tab for permissions etc.

Sorry to be a pain

Best Wishes

Keith

disable ALL Firewalls then try again..........if this works you need to
place your comps IP addresses into the Firewalls exception rules.

Firewalls are the main cause of the '...is not accessible.you might not
have permission to use this network
resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you
have access permission'.
Make sure the applicable folders where the files are stored in are also
shared.

I've recently encountered the same problem. I tried disabling the firewall,
but still have the same error message. So still stumped.

First you will need to know all pc's ISPs. They are normally something like
192.168.1.1. 192.168.1.2 etc. Their masks should all be the same
255.255.255.0.

Somewhere in zonelabs you should find Personnal Firewall
settings/configurations and theTrusted or Exceptions Network settings. I
don't know either prog but some searching should locate it. On each comp, in
this location, you have to enter the other 2 comps ISP number and maybe the
mask. I use Norton and it allows me to add a field ie from and to ISP
numbers. This allows for a broader setting.

Once you have located and set the ISP's try shutting down each comp and
restarting as sometimes things don't appear or take effect until a clean
start.

Try this first........then report back.

You might find this cures the problem.

go to the registry and go to this address in it.

! Check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\CURRENTCONTROLSET\LSA Change the
restrictanonymous to a 0 if it is a 1 or 2. This should fix your problem.

hope this sorts out your problem.

As has been said before it is usually the fault of the firewalls but not
always.
