Networking two machines under Linux

Hi, I am relatively new to Linux, but I have been using Windows for years.

I have an Zyxel 643 router (ADSL modem incorporated)linked to 3 boxes. One
box just runs Windows XP, the other two run a dual boot with Windows
XP/Suse Linux 9.1.

When I set the Suse software up it automatically found the ADSL system
which means that I can get both machines onto the 'net.

Subsequently my wife and I set up Samba to access from her Windows setup
to my Linux system. I keep a directory on my machine purely as an archive
for files for everyone.

I have tried twice now to set up NFS to enable us to connect under Linux,
but each time my wife's machine has frozen when we try to connect.

Which is the best program to use to accomplish this, and also are there
any decent howtos to explain it?

Regards

Bob Moore

NFS is pretty easy thing to use. But if you already have a samba
server running on your machine why not use that.
mount -t smbfs //192.168.1.10/bobsmachine /mnt/bobsmachine

for NFS read the man pages. this freezing thing doesn't sound good. if
you can show your export file and commands your using. Someone may be
able to help.

you might try the instructions here ....
http://nfs.sourceforge.net/nfs-howto/ ... remember you have to setup
the nfs server and connect from the client machine ...

you should check all the services like .. rpc.portmap, rpc.mountd,
rpc.nfsd, rpc.statd, rpc.lockd (if necessary), and rpc.rquotad should
run in nfs server.
