Yes I have read previous questions about this but didn't find the
answer I needed so that is why I created a new post

Hope I give all the info you need.

I have two computers both running win98se. Both have network cards
installed and drivers and everything and they are recognized by each
computer. I have the correct crossover cable between them. I even
bought two different brands !

The workgroup name is exactly the same, they both have unique names,
all that is done. It just seems to be the physical conection that
fails.
I tried every thing I needed to do setup a network to no avail.
The computers can see each other but not the other computer.

I tried pinging the IP address of the other computer both ways which
failed so I tried a new crossover RJ45 cable but still nothing.
I tried net diag which also failed to make any connection.
Could it be the fault of one of the network cards ?
But wouldnt that show up on any diagnostic ?
In control panel - system it says the card in both machines is working
properly so I got no ideas left... I tried just about everything.
I also tried the client for microsoft networks thing - thats all done
too ...

I have been going mental trying to figures this out for the last week
so I resort to the google groups !

If you can help please help me please email at (E-Mail Removed)

remove the 3 x's from my email address.

Thanks in advance

In such cases it helps having a laptop that is known to have
perfect network connectivity. Without a third machine you
could be chasing your tail for a long time, because of some
defect that is invisible to you.

I would check these things:
- Ensure that PnP is enabled in the BIOS
- Set all IRQs to automatic in the BIOS
- Launch the Device Manager to ensure that both network
adapters work
- Set both adapters to 10 MBits/s and half duplex
- Ensure that the IP addresses of both adapters are fixed
and are within the same subnet (e.g. 192.168.0.1 and
192.168.0.2).
