I am having trouble getting my two computers hooked
together using an ethernet cable. all I want to do is
share a printer and files between the two and I dont know
what I need to do. They both have ME, and plenty of
computer power. Please help.

You need to use a "crossover" ethernet cable to connect 2 computers
directly. If you are using a switch/hub between the computers you need a
straight through ethernet cable. Some instructions for configuring network
settings (ip address, protocols, gateway, dns, etc.) can be found at these
sites:

For straight PC to PC connections, make sure it's a crossover cable - not a
standard cable. CAT5 cables have (for lack of a better term) specific incoming
and outgoing lines. A crossover cable crosses the lines so outgoing on one
end goes to incoming on the other end and vise versa.

Normally, a hub, router, etc. does the signal crossing and standard cables are
used to hook everything up. With no such hardware, a crossover cable must be
used.

Do you have a crossover network cable between them, or just a standard
cable? If there is no hub, switch or router between them you need a
crossover cable - and even this is not guaranteed to work.
