set up a wireless network using a linksys 54g router, I have 5 desktops
computer, and several Laptops being used at various times . I have
assigned IP address to the desktop and the laptop obtain addresses
automatically. All desktops are using XP, My problem have been in setting
up a network workgroup, I have used the wizard , but still I can not share
files. When I click on view network I see the workgroups, but when I click
onto My network place I can not open files that have been shared. Also can
any one tell me how to delete a network workgroup that has been setup.

Thanks

I had a similar problem with my wireless home network. I was able to share
the internet connection but not files. I fixed the problem by renaming the
router SSID and hostname to the workgroup name that I created using Windows
network wizard and everything started working after that. Might want to
give it a try. Still learning myself so no promises.

Try making all the workgroups the same name (if needed) and make sure that
ALL users/passwords are equal to the computer that you are trying to connect
to..

In my network (Xp-Pro/XP-Home/Win98SE/Redhat9) I make sure that all the
users are added to my USER lists on all the Microsoft OS computers, as I too
found that I could see but not connect, untill I added that user to my list.

eg Comp user password
1 dave ilovebigwomen
2 mandy ilovebigmen
3 boss ihateeveryone

comp 1 should have users dave, mandy and boss,
comp 2 as above...etc etc with their passwords too!

Then each machine would connect to eachother..

That seems to work for me :O)

Confirm all PC's are on the same subnet, workgroup name and sharing has been
turned on.

Network connections/ (highlight the connection used for the WLAN - choose)
Properties/ Advanced - and make sure the XP Fire wall is *not* checked - the
Wizard likes to turn this on but IMHO due to its limited user changeable
settings this make it more of a pain then good!

Under General, highlight TCP/IP protocol (choose Properties)/ Advanced/
WINS/ (Check) Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP/ OK, OK, Close - your way out

Confirm all PC's are on the same subnet, workgroup name and sharing has been
turned on.

If you are having a difficulty sharing a particular drive or folder, using a
right click on each and choose Properties/ Sharing and confirm you have not
set the "Make this folder private" box. checking this option in a folder
closer to the root but on the same path (parent folder) will effect all
child folders.

I would say don't use the Wizard, it's nothing but trouble. Look up on
Google on *How to disable Simple File Sharing*. When you do that, the XP'
screens looks like Win 2K or Win 9'sx O/S(s) when you right-click and go
to Properties to share a folder.
