I'm slowly reading thru the posts, but I'm afrain I'm going to make a
problem worse. I have the Linksys wireless router.

I just installed a wired PCI Ethernet card (LinkSys) in my Window 98
(first edition) computer.

The computer hooked up to the interent, is Windows XP home edition.
The Windows98 computer surfs the internet flawlessly. (I definately
don't won't to mess this up)

I've enabled file sharing on both computers. My Windows XP sees the
Windows 98 great, but not visa versa.

I've had the Windows 98 machine see my Windows XP a couple of time. I
haven't installed anything after this, but now it won't see it.

Any advice?

It seems I have similar problem.

I have a two computer in a peer-peer network. One is
window 98 and another is window XP. I am lost how to
config the Window 98 and window XP to make them connect.
If you have someone response to your request, I appreciate
if you can send me a message too. Thanks.

1. Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall on
local area network connections -- it's for use only on a direct modem
connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all other
firewalls while troubleshooting. Details here:

Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall

2. Use only one protocol for File and Printer Sharing. If the network
needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing from all
but one of them. Details here:

Windows XP Network Protocols
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/..._protocols.htm

3. Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.
Details here:

Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT)

I found the solution to my problem. It was so simple. In the Windows 98
computer I had to have File and Print sharing enabled.

Then, when the computer is started, ALWAYS select the OK button to log in.
Before, I kept hitting the escape key to get past the log in and password
screen.
