Help... Please!

I have:
o 2 PCs: One Win98 and one WinXP
o 2 Printers: A Parallel HP LaserJet 4L and a USB HP DeskJet 882c
o 1 4-port Network Anywhere (by LinkSys) NR041 Router

How do I connect the 2 printers to the router so both PCs can print to them?

Is this the best way to "network" this mess?

Thanks!

Steve

Unless the router has a built-in print server and the appropriate
parallel/USB ports, just install the printers on the XP workstation or 98
workstation & share them over the network & install on the other PC - then
you can print from either computer.

The 98 does not have enough resources to act as the "print server" and the
XP is actually my laptop and it does not have any parallel ports nor is it
always available in my home office...

Any other suggestions???

Thanks!

Check out HP's external JetDirect devices. They can connect to the printer,
then via Ethernet connect directly to your hub/switch - you can assign a
static IP on each, and then have the XP box print directly to the printer
via a standard TCP/IP port (don't know how you set that up for Win98, but
I'm sure it's possible).

I believe HP has a downloadble tool that gives Win98 and NT4.0 that ability.
We've used it on some of our NT4 machines. Normally only Win2000 and newer
can do that.

You made me curious so I looked it up & found it:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/networking/software/hpspm98.exe
