networking ME to XP -

I've been trying to network ME to XP for gaming, and have
been able to get the computers to recognize each other
using a cross-over cable. I'm able to share files without
a problem, but when I load games for multiplayer
functions, the computers do not seem to recognize each
other. Are there any explanations for this?

The games I've tried are ones that previously worked
between these two systems. For some inexplicable reason
to me the computers will no longer connect/recognize each
other for gaming purposes. Even more strange is that the
file exchange still works, and I am able to copy large
files back and forth.

I've tried networking the two XP systems together, and the
Network wizard doesn't help at all.

Suggestions? Thanks, J
