Let's see...
The DG834 is an ADSL modem/router. Not a wireless router. It IS the ADSL
modem connected to your telephone line. It IS the DHCP server which dishes
out IP addresses (from 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.253) to users of your home
network.
It IS NOT a wireless device, so to use it with a wireless-ready computer,
you need an "access point".
Because wireless router are cheap ($30 for Netgear WGR614), I've used the
WGR614 wireless router as an access point in several application. To do this
you have to disable the DHCP capability of the WGR614 so that only the
primary router (your DG834) makes IP assignments.
If you don't have an access point in your network, well.....what do you
have?
1. Desktop computer with PCI wirelss card?
2. Laptop with Netgear PCMI NIC card (not wireless?
3. Netgear DG834 ADSl modem/router (not wireless)?
4. Access point?
