My preference would be to insert an IPCOP box, (any old doorstop computer,
with any x86 processor, (like: Pentium 133Mhz, 32 Mb RAM, and a 540 Mb hard
drive), though a 486 -33 with 16 Mb of RAM would serve up to about 30
client nodes. It gives you Red, Green, Amber, and, Blue, portals!

Thanks to everyone who offered help. For everyones reference, I ended
up getting it to work using firestarter. I also setup a DHCP server on
the Linux box and disabled the DHCP server in the wireless router.
