In Windows 98, in the Device Manager, I noticed there are
two adapters.

When I expand the network adapters, here's what I get.

Dialup adapter
Dialup adapter #2 (VPN Support)

I deleted one of them and restarted my machine, but the
network didn't work because I could not surf online. Then
when I reconfigured the network I see the two adapters
which I just can't understand.

What's happening?

Carey,

The problem is within the Device Manager. The link you
gave me I don't think is what I need to follow. I really
don't see how that is going to work. :Still Confused:

Some versions of AOL software (and possibly other software)
automatically create a "Dialup adapter #2 (VPN Support) entry in
Device Manager. If you delete the adapter, AOL automatically
re-creates it.

Why did you delete that adapter? Is something not working right on
your network?

This is the first time you've mentioned anything about the device manager.

It's impossible for me to offer you a helpful suggestion unless you offer me
as much information as possible about the details of the problem.

Oh wait, you are seeing the Dial-up adapters in the Device Manager and not
in the Network Properties...

I recommend you make the changes in the network properties as described in
the link I previously sent to you. There is nothing wrong with your device
manager and your device manager has nothing to do with the problem you are
reporting. Network properties in the control panel need to be properly
configured and that is explained in the link.

Read the guestbook on my page if you really don't think the link applies to
you. Believe me, it does.

Thanks!
Carey
