There are differences, but 5 or 5e will do what you want (assuming
you're talking about 10/100/1000 type networking). Don't buy old
Cat 3 cabling, but you're unlikely to encounter that, anyway. If
Cat6 is the same price as 5e, there's no harm in buying it, but
there's no need, either -- gigabit is the fastest thing going, and
it works just fine with 5 or 5e.
