QuickFind code: 48449 Mfr part #: ASR-8400 £29.99 + VAT
4 port router with modem (saves using a nasty USB modem)
Get yourself two network cards if you don`t already have them
available or built in (standard 10/100 cards are fine) -
QuickFind code: 31095 Mfr part #: EA1115 £2.99 + VAT each
And you might want to pick up some standard CAT5 network cables while
you`re there - starting from £0.99 + VAT each
The usual way of connecting up is to plug each computer into the router
via the RJ45 cable and the router will handle the "internal" network so
you can share files if you wish. The router will allow the computers to
access the internet "across a network" (it`s even easier to set up in
windows than dial up networking), and will also give a greater security
buffer, as any hacker trying to connect will only get as far as the
router - they won`t be able to find out what IP addresses you are using
"internally" (the router handles that)
You "connect" to the router (usually) via a web browser - you type in an
IP address and a web front-end will guide you through the setup procedure
for telling it how to access your internet account.
If the connection gets dropped for any reason, the router will usually
automatically reconnect.
