I have been attempting to network a Dell laptop (Comp1)
with my desktop(Comp2) using a crossover cable. Both are
running Win ME. The desktop has an internal Network PCI
card and the laptop an internal 3Com 10/100 mini PCI
Adapter. The laptop is connected to AOL via a USB DSL
modem. (However the problem was exactly the same before I
connected to Broadband)

On Comp2, selecting, My Network Places+Entire
Network+Mshome, results in just one icon for Comp2.
Selecting the icon then shows all the shared drives in
Comp2.

On Comp1, selecting My Network Places brings up the
expected icons but also icons for all the shared drives
and folders in Comp2. Selecting Entire Network+Mshome
brings up an icon for Comp2 and selecting that brings up
all the shared drives plus the shared printer.

All pings are successful to and from both machines using
names or IPs.

Any suggestions please?

Although pings are OK, attempting Run \\Comp1 from Comp2
returns an Error message, Windows cannot find Comp1.
