I've recently added a new computer and created a network
MN-700 base station and MN 730 Wireless adapter.
Both PCs can access the internet. Remote PC cannot print to shared local
printer. All settings, names etc correct as per the user's guide.
I think it must have something to do with the Broadband Network Utility not
showing any 'Networked Devices" no matter how many time I 'refresh'. It says
"no devices found on the local network."
How come a PC that shares the connection and can access the internet fine
would not be shown? What am I missing to get the printing to work? (That's my
main issue) Troubleshooting guide and wizards are no help so far. Workgroup
name and all settings are good I believe.

Pls Advise

Are you running any third-party (Norton/Symantec or ZoneAlarm, for example)
firewalls on the computer to which the printer is attached? If so, that's
probably blocking the connection, as long as they're both part of the same
Workgroup.

Chris:

No third-party firewalls on the PC that the printer is connected to. I use
the XP firewall and the router features as a firewall and Webroot Spysweeper
on that PC as only lines of defense.

They are both part of the same Workgroup.

On the PC that is remote, what type of port should I be choosing for the
printer? The choices are different LPT and COM ports as well as a TCP/IP
option.
The printer is hooked up to a USB port on the base station system. Even if I
had a wrong port choosen, that would not explain the lack of Network devices
shown, would it?

Which router is this, I thought you said it was the MN-700? As far as I
know there's no "Webroot Spysweeper" on the MN-700. The two machines are
Windows XP, correct? You do have Printer and File Sharing enabled on the
host machine, correct? Have you "installed" the printer on the second
machine via Add Printer? There are details in Help and Support on how to do
this.

Chris" Yes it is the MN-700. Both Machines are XP Home Edition. Printer and
file Sharing enabled on both machines. I have 'installed the printer via the
2nd machine via 'Add Printer."

Spyweeper is not part of the Base station, but a third-party spyware program
(not a firewall).

Try disabling that program, restart both systems and then see what happens.

Chris: I got it figured out. On the new system (the PCI Wireless Adapter
Remote Computer), I didn't think the firewall was active but it must have
been. Norton Internet Security was on the system(60-day trial) and I had it
disabled, but it must run something in the background anyway. One I
completely unistalled the Norton/Symantec program, the system was able to see
the printer.
You were on the right track on the first reply. Thanks for all your help.

8-) You're welcome, Doug. Norton (Symantec) doesn't quit when you "exit"
from the Systray icon. That only closes out the icon, and not the program
itself. We've seen a lot of errors caused when people attempted to upgrade
to XP SP2 on their machines. Guess what causes it? Yup. If you're running
a router with a hardware firewall, and running Windows Firewall (XP SP2) on
each machine, you should be fine for protection from external problems.
