Is networked computer on internet?

I have 2 WIN98SE computers networked using a cross-over cable.
Computer A has an ADSL connection, and computer B goes through
computer A to the internet. Works fine. When I sit at computer
B, how can I tell if it has internet access or not?
I phoned my granddaughter who also has a computer B, and she
says she looks at the ICQ icon - if it is green, she has
internet access.

I don't have room to put ICQ on computer B. Is there a simple
program which would give me an icon showing internet connection
or not on computer B?

You could open up Internet Explorer and attempt to go to a web page,
www.microsoft.com for example.

I just found this program-
dialup actions

freeware, which says-

"If you are using a single computer with a modem and Internet
Connection Sharing (or other Proxy software) to provide access
to the Internet for your network, Dialup Actions will notify all
the machines on the network when the Internet connection becomes
available."
