You don't need to run XP's Wizard on the 98 unit -- you can set the
network up manually.
Go to Control Panel | Network and :
1. Install Client for Microsoft Networks.
2. Install File and Printer Sharing.
3. Configure the TCP/IP->NIC properties to obtain an IP address
automatically.
4. Click the Identification tab and set the workgroup name to the same
name that XP uses (default is MSHOME). This isn't strictly necessary,
but it makes networking a little easier.
What connection method did you specify when you ran the Wizard on XP?
The right choice is "through a residential gateway or through another
computer on my network." If you specified something else, run the
Wizard again.
