I recently started getting errors on some, but not all, IP printers on my
Win2k3 server. The error that is logged in the event log is:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Print
Event Category: None
Event ID: 6161
Date: 5/17/2006
Time: 9:46:40 AM
User: TEKRA\SLF
Computer: TEKSRV8
Description:
The document Bills Nascar Pool 5-20-06.xls owned by SLF failed to print on
printer IS Color. Data type: NT EMF 1.008. Size of the spool file in bytes:
185344. Number of bytes printed: 0. Total number of pages in the document: 1.
Number of pages printed: 1. Client machine: \\D6T-HB5J. Win32 error code
returned by the print processor: 5. Access is denied.

I saw reference to an HP related hotfix. Does anyone else have this
problem? Note that all affected printers have been installed for at least 1
year, and the problem did not occur until last week. Any thoughts on how to
get the hotfix?

Thanks,
Joe

I have run accross this before. Three things:
1) If your on a domain, set the user SLF as a local admin and see if
this resolves it.
2) Turn on the guest account.
3) Local Security policy, User Rights, Check "Access this computer from
the network", "Deny Access to this computer from the network" and any
others in here that may catch your eye. Im not sitting in front of a
2003 server so im doing this from memory. Also check security options.

Hope this helps, if not post back and we can try a couple of other
things.

Micah,
Thanks for the reply. I should have added that the print server in question
currently has about 20 other printers, and all users including the user SLF
can print to them. In addition, other users can print to the problem printer
through this server. So I'm pretty confident that local security is not the
issue.

Any other ideas?
