Network USB printer

I have an Epson C42 USB printer i'd like to 'network' between 3 PC's,
but not so it's directly connected to any one PC

I don't have a router with USB connection, but do have a spare 10/100
'slot', so could i use a USB print server?

I have "Googled", and found varying answers, most of which seem to point
to having to share a printer from a local machine, but i'm hoping an
'alternative' may have since surfaced.

A USB printer server seems the only alternative?
