Network stops working

at roughly the same time every night anything that access a network
resource stops working, whether it be a computer using a printer,
files, etc. however access to the internet is not interrupted. The
only way to resolve is for the affected user to log off the pc and
back onto the domain. It affects all users at the same time you access
network resources, if you are not using network resources then
everything works fine

we are running windows server '03

any suggestions?

Network resource? One one server or do you have multiple servers? If so, is
it happening on all your servers?

What is running on the server(s) at that time?
Any errors in the event logs on the server(s) or workstations?

I assume it's not a switch issue, since you say internet access works. If
this is the case, it makes me wonder what DNS addresses are on the clients?
Your DC's or your ISP's?

Can you post an *unedited* ipconfig /all of one of your servers and of one
of your workstations please? This will give us a configuration snapshot of
your infrastructure and a starting point to diagnose this.

Have you tried to add & configure your WINS server? It might help you
resolve your issue, also is there an error message you get when you
try to connect to a network resource during that time?

In aditioon to Igor's suggestions, I would disable the NIC that does not
have an IP address. That is "Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:"
Multihomed DCs are very problematic.

I am looking for the red X's in the Event viewer. Are you saying you have
many of them? Look in each log, the app log, systems, and everything in
between.

no error message main problem is the program they use doesn't respond
and they can't print no errors though

WINS server on the local machines or on the server?

If you are using WINS, make sure the WINS address is on all machines. WINS
provided NetBIOS resolution across subnets as well as minimizes/almost
eliminates NetBIOS broadcasts. If the machjiens are all on one subnet, you
can get away without WINS.

Have you disabled the unused NIC? Once you do that, you will also want to
delete the 169.254.99.145 address in DNS under the
expressway.arledgesuzuki.com zone as well as under the
_gc._msdcs.expressway.arledgesuzuki.com zone.
