Windows Server 2003 with service pack 2 is a member server of a domain
Yesterday and previously all users could access the "Data" share by
entering the UNC path of the machine and double-clicking the share
name. Of course, users whose computers were not on the domain had to
enter their domain credentials "domainname\username" and domain
password to see the share. That's fine.
Something changed when I created a new folder under that "Data" share
and added some user permissions to that folder. I wish I could remember
*exactly* what I did, but I can't. It seemed routine.
Now when a user whose computer is not in the domain tries to enter the
UNC path to that computer, the authentication box comes up as normal,
but their credentials are not accepted! They get an error message
"<servername> is not accessible. You might not have permission to use
this network resource..."
For users logged into a machine on the domain everything works as
normal.
Does anybody have any idea how to get back to where the domain
credentials allow access to that share? Barring that, does anyone have
any troubleshooting ideas? The permissions seem identical to ones on
another machine where it is still working.
Any help is appreciated.
