network setup - trying to change IP address

Guys,

I am trying to edit my IP address when going onto Network Tools
(Applications-->System-->Network. I logged in as root but still
getting "Could not run SU" Check permission...

Any idea? This is SUSE Linux 10.

Hi Tony.

Goto any console.
Login as Root.
Type as
ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.2

give ip address as ur need.

The idea is -- should you want to change the network settings, you must
have the authority of being "super user" -- su. Maybe your that X
application for changing network settings doesn't have enough
permission for running ifconfig command behind it.
