We have SBS200 Server with (2) network cards - one for internal
network(INT), one for Internet (EXT). We live in a rural area and do
not have cable or DSL available so we have been using dial-up. using an
external LAN modem from 3Com. We recently purchased the Kyocera AirCard
from our wireless telephone provider that provides broadband connection
speeds and we currently have that card (PCMCIA) in our XP Pro laptop.
The laptop has a wireless connection to our local network through a
Linksys Wireless-G Broadband router (model WRT54G).

Our goal is to use the Laptop as the "gateway" to the Internet for our
SBS2000 network.

Here is our current configuration:

The server's EXT NIC is connected to the LAN modem. The LAN Modem's IP
Address= 192.168.1.1

INT NIC:

IP: 192.168.16.2
SN: 255.255.255.0
DG: Empty
DNS: 192.168.16.2

EXT NIC:

IP:192.168.1..2
SN:255.255.255.0
DG:192.168.1.1
DNS:192.168.16.2

The laptop's wireless NIC IP = 192.168.16.9

How can we reconfigure our server's EXT NIC to use the laptop for our
Internet connection?

Assuming you want all Internet traffic goes to the XP laptop, you should disable the EXT NIC and setup default gateway on the INT NIC pointing to the XP IP.

I can't really see any use for the Linksys. The SBS server is the logical
device to use as the gateway router for your LAN. SBS works best like that
and that is how it was designed to work. What you really want is for the
broadband link to directly replace your dialup via LAN modem. Have you
considered simply plugging the broadband connection into the server instead
of its external NIC? You can get a USB to PCMCIA adapter or a PCI adapter
card which will accept a PCMCIA card (if your supplier only offers PCMCIA).
