I am setting up a network for my desktop and laptops using a Linksys router.
The desktop is using an eithernet cable to connect to the network while the
laptops have wireless cards. All three computers are able to access the
Internet but now I need to secure my network. I used Windows Wireless
Network Setup Wizard to change the default SSID, created a network key, used
a USB Flash drive to move the network information to my laptop.

The problem is that when I try to connect to the wireless network on my
laptop, the default SSID is still listed as an unsecured wireless network and
is giving an excellent signal and the new SSID is not shown. When I go to
"Change Advanced Settings" and click on the "Wireless Network" tab, the
original default network is listed as automatic and shows a signal while the
newly created network is listed as automatic but shows no signal. I only
seem to be given the option to create a new network or add computers to the
default network.

How can I change the default network rather than creating a new network?

Aloha Knwnsccrhooligan,

When I've had those kinds of problems in the past it's been because I forgot
to click "Save Settings" on the LinkSys configuration screen. Each screen
has its own save settings button and you need to save before you change to
another screen.

Log into the configuration web page for the LinkSys router and see if you
can check/change those settings.
