Hi!

Our office (A) is connected to a branch office (B) with a bridge 512kps. A
has a novell server, B has nt4 domain. I am now setting up a new 2003 DC at
A and will soon upgrade nt4 to 2003 at B and join A:s new DC. The link
between B and A is mainly used by B:s users when they connect to Citrix
server in A. Will nettraffic increase much when A and B got 2003 servers and
they´ll try to replicate? 512kps it´s a bit slow even today. Will 2Mbs be
enough?

Tommy

You can control/schedule replication between different sites in Active
Directory. See:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tre..._intersite.asp

If your plan is to have a single Windows Server 2003 domain with 2 sites,
you are not going to be able to accomplish this in the manner you describe.
Basically your choices are to migrate users from your NT4.0 domain at site B
to your new AD domain which you have created at site A; or kill the DC at
site A, upgrade the domain at site B, and join the Win2003 machine at site B
to the AD domain at site B. Unless you are going the migration route, the
first DC you create must be an upgrade of the NT 4.0 PDC at site B. See:

Hi Doug! Let´s see if I understood you right?

I cannot upgrade the pdc at B to 2003 and when "AD wizard" start join the DC
in A by choosing "Child domain in an existing domain tree"?????

Here is my goal:
1) a new 2003 server in A , called "mycompany.com" (the server is yet
uninstalled)
2) upgrade the PDC in B to 2003 and join A so it is called
"officeB.mycompany.com"

If this is impossible and I have to migrate users with ADMT, in which order
should it be done?

1) set up a new 2003 server in A , called "mycompany.com"
2) migrate users from PDC in B to A
3) what next? what happens to local client user profiles in B?

Another option I have considered is
1) upgrade PDC in B to 2003 and leave it as "officeB.com"
2) set up a new 2003 server in A , called "mycompany.com"
3) set up a trust between A and B

I am a bit comfused at the moment about what is possible and not, please
help.

Tommy
