Having a little problem on my Network trying to set a printer up and was
hoping someone might be able to cast some light on it.
It's a Win98 Network, just an Intel InBusiness 8 port hub with 5 client
machines and a machine I basically use as a file server. I want any
machine on the network to be able to send to the printer (which is
attached to the machine I'm using as a server). The printer installs
fine on the client machines, and appears in their Print Properties box
but whenever a job is sent down to the printer it just disappears into
nowhere, and trying to resend it results in "The printer could not be
found".
The shared filename is sub 12 chars and has no spaces in it.
I've tried the instructions from an offshoot page in that FAQ that's
used in here to try and fool the client machines into thinking that it's
a local printer (Capture Printer Port with the location mapped on LPT1).
I've tried moving the printer to one of the client machines and sending
to it from one of the other clients.
I've tried two different printers on it, a Hewlett Packard610C and an
Epson640. Both give the same results.
Just to throw a spanner in the works, I also have another shared Hewlett
Packard printer (640 iirc) that I'm using as a temporary fix - this
printer is not on my directly on my network workgroup, but I can piggy
backed onto it because my hub is also daisy chained onto the other
networks hub. This works absolutely fine.
Any suggestions as to why my machine can't send to the printer directly
on my own network ?
