Finally got printer working from either machine. The answers were in this
newsgroup. Especially in the replies by Steve Winograd. I had tried just
about all the suggestions, and then on his website found one last note about
eliminating all protocols but one (I used TCP/IP), and binding it, by itself
to file printing and sharing. It seems I knocked out the few extra protocols
in win98. In any event, and as always, the answers are out here. Thanks.
