I already have two USB ports and the printer and the modem
are both connected. When I say it disconnects I mean my
network connection drops by it's self. I am on the
network with no problem and then I print something - once
I print for some odd reason my network connection drops
and I am unable to get it back unless I reboot my
computer. Note: someone suggested a router and it did not
fix this problem.

Your printer is probably pulling too much power and as a result the PC is
shutting down part of the USB system. I'd get a small, inexpensive
self-powered USB hub (you can find them at most stores that carry computer
stuff, for example, Wal-Mart has them as low as $20) and hook the modem and
printer up to the USB hub.

Buy a router. It will not only free up your USB port, it will work as a
firewall as well as use Ethernet for your Internet connection.
