network performance problem win 2003

Hi,
I'm having a big problem using win 2003 with 2 network
interfaces. One (Lan) is a 3C940 bases on board Gbit
Ethernet controller (Asus P4C800 Deluxe motherboard) and
the other one (Wan) is an old 10 Mbit 3C900 Combo Card.

When sending data to the server (via Lan) I get speeds up
to 8000 kB /sec, what i concider to be normal for my
network based on 10/100 Hubs

When recieving data from te server (via Lan) I get speeds
up to 1200 KB/sec, so not even close to what is should be.
It seems to be some kind of problem in Win2003
configuration, but I haven't been able to point my finger
to it. Ive tried other Nics, such as 3C905, but the problem
remains. When disabeling all nics, exept one, I sometimes
manage to get normal performance, but this is not always so.

Some advice would be welcome

What is the network configuration of both NICs?

Server is mainly used as IIS webserver and Fileserver

Wan site (3C900 Combo) uses 172.16.10.5 / 172.16.10.6 mask
255.255.255.0

Lan site (3C940) uses 172.16.20.1 mask 255.255.255.0
Lan site is bound to DNS en DHCP server
Default gateway is 172.16.20.254

Both nics are connected to the same hub
There's also a connection between the hub and my ADSL router.

No routing, ICS, or what so ever installed on Win 2003 server

Hope this is enough info.

Don't do that. Keep nics in different subnet *physically* separated. You
should share the same wire with multiple subnets only when using VLANS, but
when you are not using VLANs keep the Physical Layer separate and distinct.

I know, I know, ;-)

This is a test configuration. In a later phase both nics
will be connected to separate network segments. Connecting
both nics to the same hub should not influence performance
that much (I think). So why the performance problem. Where
should I start looking???

The purpose of my suggesting is to simply the evironment to eliminate any
aberations that "might" cause the problem. Once you get it down to the
simplest design possible with the least amount of oddities, the problem will
either go away, or at least have its cause narrowed down to fewer options.

I've tried to go back tho one nic, as you can see in my
first post ;-)

It just didn't help that much. I know how to get ik working
with one nic. (I've got normal performance after a cold
reboot) Now I'm just trying to get a reluctend Windows
functional with to nics.
