Network Performance Problem

I recently replaced some of our 100MB switches with Gigabit switches. Now I
have a mix of 100MB and Gigabit switches in our environment. They are
configured in a star design where 2 - 100MB switches and 2 - Gigabit
switches plug directly in to a 5th Gigabit switch.

The problem I am having is with some computers that have only 100MB NICs.
Their performance has slowed considerably.

I have plugged them into the 100MB and the Gigabit switch but the problem
does not go away.

I have tried various combinations of duplexing speeds and flow control on
both the switch and computer but the problem still persists.

The weird thing is that not all 100MB computers experience this problem.

What is the best way to try to investigate this issues? Is there any
software or monitoring tools that can pinpoint if it's a switch issue or a
NIC issue.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,
Jasper

Try making sure the nics are hard coded to 100 Full and if you can manually
set the switch port have that set to the same speed. Sometimes nics are not
that great at auto negotiating. If your nic driver has diagnostic utilities
take a look at what kind of errors if any you may be getting on them.
