Network Neighbourhood browsing problem

Hi,

We have a single domain with 3 sites.

Site 1 can see all computers in itself and Site 3
Site 3 can see all computers in itself and Site 1

Site 2 can only see computers in itself

Site 2 can connect to shares in Sites 1 and 3 ok, and ping computers by name
and ip address ok. The same also works in reverse - ie Sites 1 and 3 can
connect to shares in Site 2 without any problems. DNS and AD replication
works fine
throughout all the sites fine.

It just seems to be PC browsing that is the issue. There is a firewall
between sites 1 and 2 and i suspect some sort of filtering on NETBIOS is
happening. But the fact that all shares can be accessed leads me to think
maybe this isn't the issue.

Any ideas?

TIA.

Hello IJH,

If you will have full network browsing install a WINS server in your network.
Also Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP on all machines:

network properties>TCP/IP>advanced>WINS>enable netbios over TCP

We have a WINS server at Site2 which is specified in DNS.

We can connect to PC's via \\PCNAME1\ ok, it seems to be just browsing that
we cannot do. Does this sound correct?

Are all machines in all sites set up as WINS clients? You need a
network-wide WINS database for browsing to work properly. The master
browsers on each segment need WINS to communicate across the routers.
