network neighborhood empty

Hi

System details:

Host PC: Win 98 First Edition connected to wireless router via cable
Client PC: Win 98 SE with wireless ethernet card
Client PC: Win XP Home with wireless ethernet card

I have a wireless network that worked faultlessly until I had a virus on the
host (Win 98) PC. The virus has gone, but the network problem persists.

The workgroup name (HOME) is no longer seen in Network Neighborhood, and
none of the other PCs can be seen either. This is the same for all 3 PCs on
the network

They can all access the Internet via the wireless router, so the router
isn't the problem. The problem, I think, is with the host PC

I've been into Control Panel and checked the Network settings, and I believe
they are the same as before. I don't see any problem with them

Any ideas gratefully received

Thanks

Pete

you should at least see the PC that you are on listed.

Tried using \\computername in the Run box of Start to access a machine
without browsing for it ?

Microsoft File & Printer sharing active on all the relevant
connecitons ?

One folder shared per PC ?

Thanks for your prompt response Phil

Yes, I can see the PC listed that I'm on

\\computername returns a dialog box that says the network name can't be
found

File & Printer sharing are all enabled

Each PC has several shared folders

Actually, there's something I've only just remembered. After the virus
infection, I installed Zonealarm. Is it possible that may have been the
cause, rather than the virus. I've uninstalled Zonealarm, but the problem
is still there

I was wrong. One of the other PCs is found with \\computername although it
doesn't show up in the Network Neighborhood. How can I get this machine to
show up in Network Neighborhood?

yes, firewalls, including the Windows XP one, can get in the way of
networking.

Al the computers have the same workgroup name and different computer
names I assume ?
Properties of My Computer, Computer Name tab.

connecting to a shared folder and using it. The network neighborhood
thing is a browser that works by broadcasting, if it doesn't hear it
reduces the frequency of asking. You may find it just starts to work.

Goggle for "browse master" or try
