Hello,

I have a Windows 2003 Server running a local domain setup. When client
computers first start up and log in, they can view computers under the
Network Neigbor in windows explorer, however, after a couple of minutes, the
computers disappear un the domain name. However, if I go and do a search,
it can find them ok. Why are they disappearing under the Network Neigbor in
Windows Explorer?

Regards,

James

Network Neighborhood is just a graphical display of the list built by the
computer browser service. Your problem sounds like a browser failure. Is the
server mutihomed or used for remote access? Are there any other servers on
the network?

The 2003 server is a local server runing Primary Domain Controller, DNS,
DHCP, Remote Access (for Dial out only) and Terminal Service for local
connection to the Server for maintenance. This is a small network of 7
computers. I do have a second 2003 server, but it is setup as just a server
for applications. I.E. The second server is not a domain controller.

It does this on several computers. So I am thinking it has to do with
something on the server itself. I never had this problem when I was running
Windows 2000 Server.

It almost certainly is something on the server. That is why I suggest
that you need to run browstat to find out what is happening with the
computer browser service.

Sorry about that. It must have been another poster I was discussing
browstat with.

Browstat is one of the system tools from the server CD. For tips on
using it to debug browser problems, see KB 188305 .
