network in my garage with KVM - wiring problems

I want a bunch of computers in my garage, about 8 of them.
And a keyboard mouse and monitor in my bedroom.
So I could have a KVM Extender that puts a long cat5 cable between the
2 sites. A long cable going from my bedroom, outside, and into the
garage.

I'd rather have RJ45 "Wall Plates" i.e. holes in the wall where I can
plugin my cat5 cable. then I won't have messy wires.

Who do I call to get that done?

KVM over Cat5, or KVM over IP.

Cyclades.com do this, but it'll be expensive.

Er, me? Bloody expensive though. Is VNC out of the question?

Local electrician? Some will do it with no problem, some will claim
they do networking but make a mess of it, and some won't want to know.
Why not do it yourself? Either put the cable in conduit or use UV
stabilised Cat5.

That was what I started writing about, around 04:00, but knew it was
not a solution the OP was looking for... Would mean flexibility to
move kit from one place to another, and still find it easily by IP
whilst a single KVM switch would tie the gear to one room. Peter M

maybe the subject of my post was unclear. Forget KVM.
I will of course have a KVM Switch, no question about it. I already
have one.

I have a KVM Extender, but I do not want a long cat5 cable going down
the stairs under and through doors, outside the house, through the
garage door and into the garage

One solution would choose is a wireless kvm extender. But I am
suspicious of radiation. I don't want a receiver near me. I don't even
carry a mobile phone.
But I don't want to get into that.

THe nice solution would be wall plates and cabling done nicely by an
electrician or wirer of some sort. But I a not sure who to call. An
electrician is coming roudn to see if he can do it, but he's not sure.

When electricians add a telephone socket, they don't run the wires. The
wires are already there.
What professional person would run wires aroudn the house, through
doors, outdoors, neatly? and provide wall plates.

Big firms do have this. Individuals plug their computers into an RJ45
socket in the wall. Wires are neatly and invisiblly leading into the
server room to a router. That is what I want.

Always better going for a wired solution where possible anyway,
radiation or not.

If he's not sure then avoid him, don't know why he's bothering to look
at the job if he's not sure what's going on.

Bugger me, I've been doing it wrong all this time, I've been
installiong cables for new phone points when they are already in the
wall for some miraculous reason in the right place.

I can do that, but I have no idea where you are.

Some electricians can do it, some can't. Some medium size data cabling
co's will be able to do it but some larger one's may not bother. It
all depends who's around your area. I have seen contractors up and
down the country, be they "specialist" or just electricians, make a
right pigs ear of such simple cabling jobs it almost defies belief.

The cable in the wall isn't Cat5 though. But if an adaptor can make it
an an RJ45 socket -for cat5 cable, then that's still only 1 cable, my
telephone line, already used for DSL.
I doubt i'd be able to have my KVM signal going down that same cable!

not VNC. I want to be able to go to the BIOS remotely.
