Hi folks

I have today installed the network monitor software on my network and I am
looking for some resources on interpreting the output. I have seareched the
microsoft site but with little success - I must add I don't speak microsoft
and sometimes miss the obvious documents, thanks for anyhelp

If you mean the built in netmon, then I don't know of much useful
information other than it displays info based on source/destination traffic
based on IP address, ports, and protocols. I much prefer Ethereal [free] and
there is a lot of documentation about Ethereal including a couple of
published books. Ethereal is also much easier at using capture/view filters
and extracting data to files. --- Steve

Steven

many tahnks for your response, I will tryout Etherreal. Another day spent
with netmon has been quite useful but I must admit it's not the best

cheers again

Dave

OK. Good luck. The link below is to the fairly new book out about using
Ethereal. I have used netmon in the past and could never quite get the
capture filters to work the way I wanted. I find it fairly easy in Ethereal.
Capturing the right data can make the job of packet sniffing much
easier. --- Steve
