Network issues.....

We have a small network established, essentially 1 "server" (running
98se) and 2 clients, also running 98se. One of the clients was
attacked in some form, we're not exactly sure by what, but essentially
all of the networking components on this machine were trashed. I
reinstalled TCP/IP and re-established the NIC on this machine. Now,
however, I am completely unable to access the network. In our
configuration, the "server" is running ICS, and is connected to a
router, which in turn is connected to a cable modem. The router is
acting as DHCP for us. However, I cannot make the client that went
down pull an IP. I tried doing it as a static IP, no luck. If I set
it to "automatically detect", it pulls no IP. I suspect that one of
my issues is a bad driver for the NIC, as I can't even renew an IP on
this machine. Attempting to renew returns "Error 32". I haven't
worked with ICS in the past, so I am a bit in the dark. Is there
something that needs to be done on the "server" to help bring this
client back? Has anybody seen anything like this in their experience?
Thank you very much for taking the time to assist me.

What little I can find on error 32 involves a "broken pipe" situation, where
the process can't move data from one end of a connection to another. I'd
remove all network components, shut down, remove the network card, restart
the system, then shut down again and either install a NIC that you have
known-good drivers for or make sure you have good drivers for the existing
NIC before trying anything again.

doesn't ICS have a little setup disk that you install on the clients?

you would probably need to rerun that to establish the sharing features
again
